INTRODUCTION

Healthy People Grant, Inc. provides funding to assist in the creation of a healthier nation through a holistic approach in the identification and mitigation of behavioral and lifestyle risk factors.

Specifically, the Grant offers immediate opportunities for three stakeholders:

• employers interested in creating a healthier workforce by participating in the Grant and receiving up to $335 per employee and spouse (click here for details);
• health and wellness professionals interested in educating and coaching employees and family members of participating employers as Corporate Health Coaches; and
• individuals and organizations interested in helping spread the word about the Grant's availability as Risk Management Consultants, Wellness Educators and/or Wellness Consultants (click here for a comparison of the available roles).

BACKGROUND ON HEALTHY PEOPLE 2010

Healthy People 2010 provides a framework for prevention for the Nation. It is a statement of national health objectives designed to identify the most significant preventable threats to health and to establish national goals to reduce these threats. A portion of the broader initiative focuses on worksite-based wellness initiatives with a goal of increasing the number of employers that offer a comprehensive health promotion program. Briefly stated, a target of 75% of employers, regardless of size, should have an active worksite-based wellness program in place with a minimum of 75% of employees participating in it.

OUR ORGANIZATION'S ORIGIN

The Healthy People 2010 Grant is a grant developed to accomplish national health improvement goals set forth by numerous leading governmental and private organizations and institutions. As a privately funded initiative, it provides resources for employers to create a healthier workforce without any investment and funds a limited number of scholarships to train and support individuals to assist in the corporate wellness programming as a Consultant and/or a Coach.

Our first two rounds of grant funding came from a non-governmental source and we will be also operating under governmental funding made available from the new health care legislation in the near future.
